How the rules actually work
There is no single European rule. In practice the policy is set venue by venue: a hotel, campsite or private pool decides its own dress code, and public pools follow local rules that vary from one town to the next. That is why a directory built venue by venue · rather than country by country · is the only reliable way to know before you travel.
The two cuts, and why they matter
A loose burkini is a wide-cut swimsuit made of swimming fabric (lycra). Fitted covering swimwear is the same fabric but close to the body. Many venues that refuse one accept the other, usually because their rule is written about the cut, not about coverage. HerWhere gives a separate verdict for each so you can filter by what you actually wear.
